Less than a tenth of people that would benefit from obesity jabs like Wegovy have access to them, caution the World Health Organization as it publishes its inaugural guidance on the therapies.
With in excess of 1,000,000,000 people worldwide now obese, it is urging more widespread and fairer availability to these injectable treatments.
According to projections, more than two billion will be living with obesity by 2030 unless action is taken.
"Our latest guidance acknowledges that obesity is a long-term condition that can be managed with holistic and lifelong support," stated the agency's head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
Substantial prices, insufficient output, and logistical bottlenecks are key obstacles to universal access to the jabs that can aid individuals in losing significant body mass, notes the agency.
